Training
It is our goal to establish a comprehensive three phase training program for the Communications Recruits that will
ensure enough time for the proper training that will provide multiple opportunities for the Recruits to gain the
skills and certifications necessary to perform the job.
There will be a three-phase Training Program designed to meet the training needs of the recruit. This program
consists of both classroom and on-the-job-training. During the first six (6) months the recruits will be scheduled
to attend the P.O.S.T. mandated sixty-four (64) hour Basic Communications Officer Training Course.
Phase 1 - Recruits will complete twp (2) weeks of classroom training. The text and course study
primarily used is the NAED* basic telecommunication which provides a curriculum based on tasks of the most important
and frequent assignments.
* National Academies of Emergency Dispatch
Phase 2 - This phase consist of on-the-job training with a CTO, who will guide, direct, document
and give the recruit feedback on their performance (approximately 10 weeks).
Phase 3 - The recruit will work independently while being monitored by a supervisor. Feedback will
be given to the recruit regarding their progress on a weekly observation report (4 weeks).
